Re: The forum is not free to run BUT you access it for free!

Still a long way to go before there is enough money in the kitty to pay next years hostign and domain fees. Let's hope a few more people will donate something between now and then!

Re: The forum is not free to run BUT you access it for free!

Merry Christmas everybody! I have paid for this next years Hosting, but now the kitty is completely EMPTY! This means that if there are not enough donations through the year to get the kitty up to about £200 by December 2023 then this will be te last year that THE HAFLINGER.com will be up and access...

Re: 600 miles.

Poor Lurch is currently sitting on the driveway with an engine replacement half done. Lots of thigns happening which reduce the amount of time I might be able to spend re-assembling it and the weather over the last couple of months has been terrible. Working outside in the rain is not pleasant when ...

Re: 600 miles.

Everything! Actually, lots of things might become loose and therefore it would be good practice to go round and just check things, like wheel nuts, lights. Grease all the grease points and whilst doing that, check king pins, check diff lock lever pivot points for excess play. little bit of grease on...

Re: road trip from hell

Can't you contact the caravan manufacturer, explain the issues and get them to make a decision over the phone or via email? I assume they will take the word of a reputable repair shop? Is the issue with the brakes due to it standing for months whilst you were waiting for the landrover to get its rep...

Re: Zenith carb not idling

Hi Glen, The sequence of having high idle revs / stable idle then adjusting the needle screws is one you have to repeat several times and you really need hte engine at working temperature. Getting it to idle at a nice slow speed whilst cold will result in it ruuning very fast once it warms up. The o...

Re: Zenith carb not idling

Have you actually check the number on the jets to see what size they are? It is possible that as above you have the Porsche version of the Carb or even the Pinz version and the previous owner didn't change the jet sizes for the smaller ones used by the Haflinger.

Re: Zenith carb not idling

Hi Glen, The needle on the left does appear to have some sort of damage tothe tip. This might be enough to give you some of the issues your egine is souffering from. The springs won't have any effect on the running of the engin eas all they do is keep some pressure on the threads to stop the needle ...

Re: Zenith carb not idling

Sounds like the mixture is going lean due to no fuel coming in then dies because of no fuel. So things to check, floats - make sure they are dry inside, they can split and allow fuel to accumulate inside. The other thing you can check is to take the fuel pipe off where it joins the Carb. Turn the en...

Re: previous post

Have you tried swapping the plug leads over to see if the problem follows the change in leads? Engine should still run perfectly well with the plug leads swapped it nothing else is wrong.

Re: previous post

Have you tried changing the HT leads that go to the cylinders round? i.e. on the distributor, change the plug lead that is currently going to the righthand cylinder into the Distributor caps left hand socket. and the lefthand one to the right hand socket on the distributor. You shouldn't have to alt...

Re: New rice tires for the Haflinger

Tyres look nice and aggresive for muddy route that have a hard surface under the mud. Any wheeled vehicle will struggle in mud if the wheels can't find a hard surface to grip on. Even tracked vehicles get stuck if used in the wrong places. - Just look at the stuck Tanks in the Ukraine / Russia war. ...

Re: Hemi the Haff.

That's because it is not in the workshop manual but in the USERS manual, which is a little handbook tells you what all the switches are, how to drive a Haflinger, how to dismantle and lubricate the front repiza (CV) joints etc. Basically, what they forgot to put in the workshop manual!

Re: Lurch in need of a transplant

What with Bonfire night in Lewes on saturday which basically shuts the town down along with the rain, I haven't had a chance to carry out any further work on Lurch. So I have two engines in a state of dismantlement out in the weather (yes, they are covered up, but still out in the damp). Maybe, I'll...

Re: Lurch in need of a transplant

Obviously the designer(s) put some thought and testing into the exhaust system layout. Being old school, I was educated to believe that the two exhaust pipes would work better if they were the same length. The Haflinger's two variations of exhaust system, heating and non-heating both suffer from une...

Re: Lurch in need of a transplant

The weather has gotten the better of me getting Lurch back together along with Work. Hopefully I will have some more time during the weekend to put some more things back on. Vague list of things still to do; Carb/manifold, Dynastart, Distributor, Exhaust system - this is probably a good time to rede...

Lurch in need of a transplant

Last Treffen Lurch went to, the Cotwolds one, resulted in A: one puncture - first one I have had taking Lurch anywhere. B: Loss of power, engine still ran, but was definately down on power and also sprung an oil leak(s). As you know, oil leak very rarely get better by themselves. So Lurch's oil leak...

Re: Front Suspension Arm Fulcrum O Rings

I am sure there are square cross section 'O' rings, but I don't think they were used on a Haflinger. More likely, the normal round cross section one have just changed shape due to pressure and wear. Part of the problem is the fact that you get wear on the pins and bushes which, even the manual menti...

Re: road trip from hell

LED's usually have some sort of current controller, it used to be a resistor you had to add the circuit. Newer one have a little controler chip added at manufacture. This it prone to going wrong and then LED's don't work. Have you tried a completely new LED light one the circuit? Have you tried taki...
