Re: Canvas Top

If there was a version available, I think there are people who would buy even if it was not "quite" what they wanted. If it was really wrong then they would probably contact who ever was producing them to ask if a "Special" could be made.

Very nice, are you offering this as a service by any chance? I am sure there are a few people who would like a new set of seats! (me included)

Re: Front Hubs

I have finally managed to get round to dismantling the passenger side hub only to discover that all the bearings are damaged and show signs of rust and surface hardening damage. So am now waiting for replacement bearings. I think who ever took the hubs apart last did not have an exploded parts diagr...

Re: REMOVAL OF STEERING ARM

I would also suggest using "PLUSGAS" penetrating fluid. It works wonders with getting seized nuts and bolts apart, so would also help in this situation. Don't waste your time using WD40. It was designed to be a water dispersant primarily. It has solvents in it which will penetrate but is n...

Re: File Uploads

HaffyHunter,

Actually there is a section marked out for documentation so you could give you post an appropriate title and upload your PDF's to that section the same way you would upload a photo. (except I don't think you would have to re-size it!)

Re: REMOVAL OF STEERING ARM

If you have tried just putting a hub puller on it and it won't move, how good is the grip you have on it? I think if you had access to a welder you could weld two "ears / tabs" on opposite sides of it and the combination of heat from the welding and the better grip on it should allow you t...

Re: File Uploads

I am pretty sure you can upload a PDF the same way you upload a picture file. The only downside would be that it in a post rather than in a specific "Documentation" area. I suppose if the title was suitable then it would not get too lost as the forum builds up in members and numbers of pos...

Re: Front Hubs

Having received no service history with my one, and at 26500 miles I can only assume that NO maintenance has ever been carried out on it after the first owners. I have no way to know at what mileage the first owners sold it on so I am working on the assumption that it has had repairs but no routine ...

Re: Front Hubs

I forgot to mention that when I saw the state of the collars you mention, I bought new ones as they were too damaged to be fixable using speedi sleves (without lots of work). As a matter of course, having replaced the collars I replaced the oil seal that seals on them as that would have been worn ru...

Re: Front Hubs

I should have bought every replaceable item for the front hubs before I started taking them apart! For those that haven't followed the saga on the Yahoo group sites and have just found this site I'll put the short story next: Bought a 1973 Haflinger. It seemed good bar a couple of things - Brakes st...

Re: UK MOT - Insurance issue

All valid points. UK insurance companies are getting more strict on being informed about things like modifications and those are even down to the fitting of winter tyres (which are a definite safety improvement in cold / wet weather). So for all that I agree insurance companies will know about the m...

Re: DIY Haflinger Hard Top

Are the front side repeater lights supposed to be recessed?

Tyre tread suggests standard tyres - I think the modifications to the foot wells is to make them bigger as there is a full width rear seat.

Could always ask him to post more pictures.

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design

I think you should count yourself lucky! The Haflinger does not have very much body work so proportionally less to rust and to have to fix! Also most of the panels are easy to get at to weld and if it turns out you can't get to a particular bit - not the end of the world to take the body right off, ...

UK MOT - Insurance issue

Sorry the title does not quite cover what I wanted to comment on. The UK has recently changed the MOT test rules to allow for pre-1960 vehicles to be exempted from a yearly MOT. There are some requirements to have an MOT if you are selling the vehicle or you wish to get one anyway. The issue is this...

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design

I am glad you have decided where the oil leak was - at least you can try curing it now. I agree it is a very strange oil seal which is why it is so expensive. I decided that I did not want to have to take the hubs apart again in the near future because I only replaced the "One" seal that w...

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design

Just be thankful that you do not live in a part of the world where rust is a real problem! There are always parts of a vehicle which are rust prone and those are in particular places where the metal is double skinned. Looking at the parts book, the rail actually has a joint just behind the cab so th...

Re: Any ideas for paintwork conservation?

You can always treat the rust with a rust converting solution, and then spray with clear top coat if you want to conserve the authentic use marks.

The top coat could then be polished if needed with out fear of changing anything.

Re: Haflinger in the Snow

No, just took of the front hubs the same way you have. Drain oil from hub. Take off brake hose. Take off steering joint. Take out bottom swivel joint (king pin). Take out top swivel joint (king pin). PULL! Just I have done both sides at the same time as it seemed prudent even though it was only the ...
