Re: 2 Fantastic Haflingers for Sale!
Congrats on the purchase wojo:) I love the big mirrors. Need something like that on mine. The blindspot on the driver side is horrible on my polycab. So far it seems like for every two hours wrenching I get about one hour of driving out of it. I hope it gets better now that the worst bugs are worked...

Re: Front brakes
Not to be rude, but you better get used to this. Seems like all Haflingers suffer from gear oil incontinence at times. Try to wipe it clean and investigate exactly where the leak is coming from.

Re: Front brakes
Also check for any play in the wheel bearings if you decide to do this job. A new oil seal will not hold the oil inside if they have any play. The wheel bearing play is adjusted with shims behind the bearing load plate. That is where the name comes from. It puts a load on the conical wheel bearings ...

Re: Portal boxes drain and fill threads sizes?
The manual says straight 90w gear oil. But straight cut spur gears is not picky on oil.
I use 75w90 as it is easier to get a hold of where I live. I imagine it is slightly thinner when cold so I get more of the 27hp to the wheels. But that could be all in my head.

Re: Alf's 6x6 Haflinger
Thanks for the explenation John. Any word on how the steering is on these? Im thinking there must be some scrubbing going on in the rear trying to twist the double rear axles sideways. probably not a problem in the rough, but I imagine tight turns on the road is interesting.

Re: What did you do with your Haflinger today?
Garry, are you sure it is not running on diesel? It has some of the diesel clatter going on:) So does your engine go Dak a Dak or is nice an quiet? Garry Well my engine is on the floor not running at all at the moment. I would not say it is quiet when running, but maybe more of a leaky exhaust kind...

Re: Engine Temperature Monitor
There is also more air (and fuel) going thrugh the intake manifold at higher load and that could effect the temperature where the probe sits.

Garry, are you sure it is not running on diesel? It has some of the diesel clatter going on:) Maybe you can use the old trick of using a big screwdriver or steel rod touching the engine and the outside of your earmuffs/hearing protection to get closer to where the sound is coming from. Even if you c...

Re: What did you do with your Haflinger today?
Constantin, The shims look like regular shims for bearing adjustment. I had 3 for a total thickness of 0,9mm (0,3mm each). They where between the flywheel and the trust surface of the crank bearing behind the flywheel. I added a picture so you can see them compared to the copper seal/shims that go b...

Re: What did you do with your Haflinger today?
Today I decided to take out the motor to look into some strange clutch noises. When i got my Haf it was growling and squeeking every now and then. But lately it has gone quiet on me and that made me worry the throwout bearing might had frozen up completely and was grinding away at something else in ...

Re: Haflinger "mileage" indication. What's "normal."
I have been spoiled with old Toyotas going 300,000+ km without much more than a few wear items replaced. I have a feeling this Haflinger experience is going to be much different.

Re: Haflingers hard at work
I would love to see it. Towed behind a Haf it would be easy to see where the trailer came from even if it was the back half of a Haf.

Re: Haflingers hard at work
Great idea Julian. But if you use the back of an Haf it looks pretty much like a regular trailer. I mean there is not much more than a box and wheels back there:) But you get a wonderfully over engineered trailer that is for sure.

Re: Haflingers hard at work
I have been looking for a trailer for it. Sometimes I need to haul long but light things like planks. So far a very simple boat trailer looks promising. They can be had in long lenghts and are pretty light. Garry, the towbar even have some kind of quick disconnect. I need to make sure everything is ...

No Garry, you can't have my wheels, but you can get them here :) : http://www.ricambio.co.uk/2920-set-of-12-inch-alloy-wheels-minilite--classic-fiat-500-126 I like them too. Very cute with 12" alloys. They have an ET of 25mm and are 4,5in wide. Give a slightly wider stance than original but are...
