Re: Tacho
Before anyone else rushes out to buy this VDO tacho, I have a slight problem with it. In anticipation of John's visit on Saturday I wired it up in my '62 Haflinger today and it is not quite right. Whilst it "looks / sounds" about right at tick over - in the region of 800 - 1,000 rpm - at s...

Re: Another strange bracket
John,
Those brackets are the receiving end for the door stays, which are made of webbing, are about 4 inches long, and stop the doors blowing open too far. I don't have the Parts Manual with me, but they are shown in it.

Thanks Steve.
Just for the record, I checked on my 1962 Haflinger today (with welded front end), and there is not such bracket.

John, That would be really good - so long as you can show me how to use it to show rpm
Absolutely no rush whatsoever; now that I have got all my machines MOT'd, taxed & insured the pressure is off.

Re: Device for moving/rotating the platform
Hi Constantin, That looks really good, and I would be interested in buying one / making one / contributing to the design costs etc. My only comment would be to make it suitable for those Haflingers with a welded front end (as it would appear that you have), as not all of us are able to remove it eve...

Would it be just neat petrol (/"gas") in the can?

Re: General tips for adjusting the brakes?
I think you are most likely right; my Haf was pulling alarmingly to one side, and however much we adjusted it we couldn't improve things. But I had a spare (used) pair of pads and swapping them over seems to have done the trick. I'm just back from a visit to the MOT test station, and have come away ...

What is this bracket for?
I have only just noticed this bracket / holder, located by the driver's knee & the brake reservoir (Right Hand Drive) - does anyone know what it is for?

Re: Tacho
Thanks Garry & Steve; I'll post another photo when I have installed it & wired it in properly. [NB: For the record, the instructions call for two more wires (for the illumination), but this is not top of my priorities right now.]

Re: Tacho
This one should be more in keeping with the haflinger instrument panel. http://www.egauges.com/vdo_ind.asp?Type=Tachometer&Series=Cockpit&PN=333-968 I have been doing some research into tachos, & found it quite hard to find one that they would guarantee would work with a 2 cylinder engi...

General tips for adjusting the brakes?
One of my Haflingers failed its MOT (Government annual safety check) last week (brakes not balanced left & right), but with a bit of fiddling we got them to be "acceptable" and it passed. I was en-route to the MOT station with another Haflinger today when I had to pull over due to a st...

Strange engine on eBay
Does anyone know what this came out of? Some hints of a Haflinger engine, but many changes too!

Re: Max from Italy
The village of Hafling is not far from Bolzano - maybe they were headed for there? A few years ago there was a Treffen held at Hafling, and we took my Haf down from the UK on a trailer. Amazing fun!

Handbrake return spring
Can anyone confirm whether the handbrake return spring (7-06, #24 & #25) shown in the attached photo is correctly "seated"? On my other Haflinger the front arm of the spring is NOT located within the notch cast into the hub - unlike in this photo. Which begs the question ... which is c...

Re: Haflinger lacks power
I'm not technically savvy enough to answer your question directly, but what is the rolling resistance of your Haflinger like? How much power is being sapped just to get it to move? I suffered from bouts of low power a couple of years ago, and that was tracked down to a tiny pin hole in the (Weber) c...

Re: MOT passed!!
John, my experience with finding gears tends to be "its somewhere over there" & a bit of a bowl of soup, but in theory 1st and 2nd (or 2nd and 3rd if you have a crawler gear) should be straight ahead / straight back when the gearstick is at rest (ie via the springs). Reverse feels (as ...
