Re: Centifugal Air Cleaner

I agree about a snorkel at the rear - the centrifugal air cleaner comes off easy enough so i am going to make a flexible system that will just be connected when needed and raise the air intake up around the top the windscreen - definitely only to be put on when needed and carries with the spares in ...

Re: Centifugal Air Cleaner

Thanks Constantin - explains the process well. It is certainly worth while sucking in fresh air at the front vs sucking in dusty air at the back cause by the vacuum at the rear of the vehicle. I only have the paper air filter on the engine at the moment and am looking to putting the oil bath back on...

Re: Front Hubs

Thankfully all the internals on my drivers side hub were OK so just replacing the oil seals. The CV seems OK so will not do the passenger side - if it subsequently plays up then Ok - learnt how to do it on the drivers side.

So when is all yours going back together and looking for MOT again?

Re: Front Hubs

Seeing your pic it motivated me to pull the swivel pin bushes out of the hub. The one on the pic came out OK using as system like you did. The blind one was more problematic as I don't have a blind puller so i got the Dremel out and with a little metal grinding bit put four slots down the bush and i...

Centifugal Air Cleaner

I am into 4wding and am familiar with Snorkels and Remote Air Intakes on vehicles. The remote air intake on the front (called the Centrifugal Air Cleaner in the parts book) sort of is the opposite to a normal snorkel in that it points down, sucks through slots at the side and it not all that high up...

Re: Front Diff Lock Linkages

Thanks John - my linkages seem to be the opposite of yours in that they seem awfully loose - I think that I need to take the linkages out and reassemble and take up any slack - the moving bits may have wear which is compounding on itself so movement of the lever is being taken up by the slack. Cheer...

Front Diff Lock Linkages

As mentioned in heinkeljb's front hubs thread I have a problem with my front diff lock. You pull the lever up but the diff lock does not engage. If I move the lever that goes into the front diff it does lock but does not stay locked. As a first action I have changed the rubber donut on the lever as ...

Re: Engine Governor

Thanks Steve - great information. For my part I certainly didn't realise that the valve gear etc was so delicate.

Cheers

Re: Engine Governor

So if you believe you can keep the revs below the maximum (i.e. red line - what ever that is for these engines), then you have no need for the governor and it is just another item to go wrong / use some of the precious horses that live in the Haflinger. John (Until I have actually driven mine for a...

Re: Engine Governor

Thats what my thought was as well - in the 101 it was certainly there to stop Squaddies over revving the engine but the engine never gets to the revs required to activate the governor anyway. I contacted the seller of the electronic ignition I have on my haffie and he knows my vehicle and the then o...

Engine Governor

My Haffie does not have a governor. Reading up on the issue I see that it strangles the engine at the carby at between 4700 and 5200 rpm. In the limited driving I have done on my engine I cannot really see the need for it as even when stopped and revving the engine with no load it only goes to aroun...

Re: Beige Haffie Paint Code

I don't begrudge the fellow for the $20 for the DVD. At least I've now been able to obtain it and see it, however grainy. He did say he got them professionally copied, and is covering his costs. It would be great to get hold of the original 16mm film- but others I've spoken to that have tried to co...

Re: Beige Haffie Paint Code

Hi Garry, he advised me that they never knew what the correct paint code was and they had paint matched to the body panels if any was needed. He also said the RAL 7032 was a very near match. Dave I still do not know whether my Haffie was made in Aust or not - I need to get the data sheet from overse...

Re: Beige Haffie Paint Code

I took off the passenger (RHD) engine bay side cover and took it along with me to the paint shop. The inside of the cover is a little "richer" in terms of colour to the outside. When I arrived at the paint shop much to my surprise they had RAL 7032 in their system and they even had a paint...

Re: Beige Haffie Paint Code

(who can supply call of the wild DVDs ) Rick What the ones copied off a doco on Channel 7 and then flogged off for $20 a pop plus postage - not bad money if you can get it. Thanks Rick - I think I will just colour match what I have and just paint complete panels as needed - they are all small so no...

Re: Beige Haffie Paint Code

Thanks Rick, I went back through the messages on the Yahoo site and the general consensus was RAL 7032 but the description was light grey/beige which didn't seem right. I went back to 2006 where the posts indicated that the Haffie colours are the same as the Unimog colours and there was a link http:...

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design

Thanks John and Constantin. Now I understand - silly me. On reflection I should have just painted all the rusted exposed metal with POR 15 and then just bogged the rust holes - it would last a few years (maybe forever here) and sources the new repair panels I need for some future restoration as that...

Re: Rust Repairs - Poor design

Thanks - not sure what specifically I am looking at on that link though as I am having difficulty other than looking at various body panels. I haven't finished the work as yet so will put something up when I finish. As I said it really need the lot cut out rather than patched up but I want the vehic...
